Hampta Pass is a beautiful crossover trek that spreads across the lush green valleys of Kullu-Manali to the arid and barren landscapes of Chandra Valley in Lahaul. This trek presents the amalgamation of distinct landscapes and cultures, which is a unique experience in itself. The trek entwines along rocky paths, grasslands, gushing streams, cascading waterfalls, hanging glaciers, and the beautiful crescent-shaped emerald lake ‘Chandratal’. Get to witness the confluence of three passes, Hampta Pass, Rohtang Pass, and Spiti, which is quite a surreal experience and not to mention a close encounter with the Buddhist culture and the lifestyle in the remote Himalayan villages. The inhabitants of Sethan are originally migrants from Tibet and Spiti Valley and you will get to observe their distinct culture and traditions.
For nature lovers, Hampta Pass is a great adventure, and the terrains keep changing vividly at every juncture of the trek, added to it is the thrill of climbing a dramatic pass, which makes the trek even more adventurous. Standing on top of the pass, you can see the stark difference in the landscapes ahead and behind the pass. Hampta Pass Trek lets you experience 5 days of diverse landscapes in a beautiful mountain rhapsody.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, everyone in the group will meet at the location where they will be picked up, and there, the leader of the hike will provide a briefing during which he or she will go over all of the important information about the hike. After that, we will make our way to Jobra, which is the starting point for the hike to Hampta Pass and is situated at an elevation of 2,939 metres (9,379 feet). Although though there are numerous hairpin curves on the road on the trip from Manali, it is still considered to be a picturesque drive because of the expansive vista of Kullu Valley that you get to get a peek of. We will arrive at Jobra after making our way through some really dense woods that are filled with pine, maple, and silver birch trees. After a little period of rest, we will set off on our journey towards Chika. During hiking, one is afforded the opportunity to see a scene that is both peaceful and invigorating. To say that the terrain that the hiking path passes through is gorgeous would be an understatement. The trail passes through lush green woods that are made up of maple, oak, and deodar trees, as well as meadows that are crossed by the Rani Nallah stream. Chika will serve as our base of operations. It is the ideal place to spend tranquil moments because to the expansive flora that covers the area and the clear sky that can be seen above. In the evening, we will have dinner, and then we will spend the night in Chika.
We shall have breakfast first thing in the morning, and then we will go to Balu Ka Ghera. The word “Balu” means “sand,” and the route certainly lives up to its name. After a brief stroll across the meadow, the terrain quickly changes to consist of boulders and loose pebbles, elevating this section of the journey to the more difficult category. The splendour of this hike lies in the fact that it affords participants the opportunity to experience the enchantment of nature firsthand in the form of breathtaking vistas. On the one side, you have the fast-moving Jwara river that seems to be following in your footsteps, while on the other hand, the majestic Dhauladhar mountains call you to come closer. In the middle of the verdant canopies, a waterfall’s cascading stream would be waiting. As you approach the beginning of Balu ka Ghera, often referred to as Chota Balu ka Ghera, the landscape will have begun to become more level. As you continue to go forward, the landscape will start to get more rocky, with the rocks being farther apart from one another, making it more difficult to navigate through. Soon, we will arrive at Balu Ka Ghera, where we will pitch up camp amid the mountains. The Hampta pass will be waiting for us beyond those mountains. We will have supper together in the evening, and then spend the night under the twinkling stars.
After breakfast, we will make our way to Sia Goru, which is the location of our next camping spot. The whole path is made up of stones, making the descent more difficult and highlighting the need of our vigilance in this situation. During the way, we will be passing via Hampta Pass, which is a breathtaking path that has a river running through the middle of it. Along the bank, there are blooming flowers in a rainbow of hues, making it a beautiful sight to see. You will also get the opportunity to witness the peak of Deo Tibba drawing you in closer. After our time spent taking in the scenery above Hampta Pass, we will set off on our descent. The terrain on the route heading downward is composed of slick dirt and loose stones. You will go to the valley below along a path that winds and turns, and after some time of walking, you will eventually reach the bottom of the mountain. The gap that suddenly appears in front of you leads to Sia Goru, which is where we will set up camp for the night, and the rest of the day will be spent at your leisure. The evening will begin with dinner, and then the guests will retire for the night in Sia Goru.

As you climb to higher altitudes, the air grows thinner and less oxygen is present. The amount of oxygen in our blood is equivalent to the proportion of haemoglobin that is saturated with oxygen. At altitudes above around 2,100 metres (7,000 feet), the amount of oxygen carried by our blood starts to decrease. At the same time, the human body possesses both immediate and long-term adaptations to altitude that help it somewhat compensate for the shortage of oxygen.

Once you run through this list, don’t miss this ultimate guide on what gear to take on a trek. It contains tips on what gear to choose, where to get it from and how much to spend on it.
Our only tip: Keep your backpack light. Trekgoindia practices low impact sustainable trekking in every aspect of the trek. Carrying your own personal backpack reduces your impact on the mountains by 20%. We expect all our trekkers to carry their own backpacks unless they have a justifiable reason not to.
Carry these medicines with you, easily accessible at all times. Do not take any medicine unless you have consulted your trek leader.
Our trek leaders carry a high altitude medical kit with them which also consist of Life Saving Drugs. If there is an emergency our trek leaders know how to tackle it. Meanwhile, contact your trek leader before consuming any of these medicines listed here.
Pro Tip: We find that these medicines by trekkers are rarely used. But you cannot do away with them. At the end of the trek please donate unused medicines to your trek leader. Some of these medicines get distributed to villages on the trek and some are added to the Trekgoindia medical kit.
In the normal course of things, IndianTreks anticipates that you will be the one to carry your own personal gear; but, if you want to unload your backpack, you may give it to the mule.

In the unlikely event that TrekGoIndia cancels a trek prior to the scheduled departure date:
While it is extremely rare for TrekGoIndia to cancel a trek, we understand that unforeseen circumstances or natural disasters may occasionally require us to do so before the scheduled departure. These circumstances could include continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that poses a risk to the safety of our trekkers. Additionally, unforeseeable events such as local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any similar situations that compromise the safety of the trekking experience may also necessitate a cancellation.
In the event of such a cancellation, TrekGoIndia will provide you with a voucher equivalent to the amount you paid for the trek. This voucher can be redeemed for any of our treks within the next year, allowing you to still enjoy an adventure with us at a later date.
Note
The issuance of a voucher is not applicable in situations where you are required to descend from the trek for any reason. The trek leader may make the decision to send you down from the trek due to factors such as insufficient fitness level, symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), high blood pressure, exceeding the designated turn-around-time, health concerns, or if you are found smoking, drinking, or violating the rules set for the trek. In such cases, the provision of a voucher does not apply.
In the rare event that TrekGoIndia shifts a trek:
We would like to emphasize that weather conditions in high-altitude areas are highly unpredictable and can undergo sudden changes at any time, irrespective of the day. Additionally, circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics, and lockdowns, may impact the feasibility of conducting a trek. In cases where we are unable to proceed with an event due to such circumstances that are beyond our direct control, we will make every effort to provide you with an alternative trek that is safer and more suitable.
In such situations, we will issue a voucher to offset the cost difference between the originally scheduled trek and the alternative trek. This voucher can be redeemed at any time within one year from the date of issue. Please note that a refund fee or reimbursement of the cost difference is not applicable in these cases.
